General Information

Best time to visit: September to April

Culture: Meghalaya is the home of music and dances. Nongkrem, Wangala, Lahoo are the famous dance. The dances are associated with their festivals or seasons and hence are to be enjoyed throughout the year. The Khasi, Garo and Jaintia are people with a rich cultural heritage.

Food: Jadoh' which is red hill rice cooked with pork and is something similar to biryani. Dohkhlieh' is a type of pork salad made with boiled pork and onions with a sprinkling of chillies as desired. Mylliem chicken is the famous non vegetarian food.

Highlights: Garo Hill and Shillong Peak, Trekking and Boating.

Climate: The temperatures in this hill state range between 10° and 30° Celsius, and even the months of April and May are pleasant. Temperature in summer ranges from 15° to 25° Celsius and in winter 4° to 16° Celsius.

How to Reach

By Air: Guwahati is the nearest airport which is 128 kilometer far from Shillong and linked by air to almost all of the metros in India.

By Road: The National Highway has efficient transports deporting passengers from Guwahati to Shillong. Other connecting buses from Shillong to the rest of the major cities are conveniently connected.

By Rail: Meghalaya does not have any train service. The nearest and railway station is inGuwahati.

Itinerary

Duration: 6 Days/5 Nights

Places to visit: Delhi - Guwahati - Shillong - Cherapunjee - Kaziranga - Shillong - Guwahati - Delhi

Day 1: (Delhi Arrival)

On the arrival at the Delhi IGI airport you will reach Delhi and will be accompanied to the hotel that has been booked in advance. After reaching hotel you can go sightseeing tour in Delhi like go for historical places, shopping in Chandi Chowk etc. After enjoying the day you will return back the hotel for the overnight stay and dinner.

Day 2: (Delhi - Guwahati)

After having breakfast you will go for Guwahati. You will check into the hotel Guwahati. After refreshment you can see sightseeing of the Guwahati. And then you can go for Cherrapunjee for see the Pillar Rock, Mawsmai Cave, Nohkalikai Waterfalls. Dinner and overnight stay will be at the hotel in Cherrapunjee.

Day 3: (Guwahati - Shillong)

In morning after breakfast check out from the hotel and drive to Shillong which is beautiful hill station with snow capped mountains and outstanding sightseeing spots. Later at night dinner and overnight stay will be at the hotel in Guwahati.

Day 4: (Shillong - Cherapunjee - Shillong)

After breakfast you will go for Cherapunjee which is the heaviest rainfall area. You will see the Lime Stone Cave and overnight stay in hotel.

Day 5: (Shillong - Kaziranga -Shillong)

After breakfast you will go to Kaziranga National park which is the most famous national park of North east India. Return to Shillong and you will overnight stay in Shillong.

Day 6: (Shillong - Guwahati - Delhi)


Last day you will return back to Delhi from Guwahati airline.
